Hobbies I Enjoy Doing at Home

Self-quarantining and social distancing during the COVID-19 outbreak is a responsible act to follow if possible. This can lead to a lot of spare time and a chance to discover new hobbies that you can do indoors.

Here are the hobbies that I enjoy doing at home.

Reading or Listening to Audiobooks

I’m a reader and I love setting aside time to finish a good book. If I’m unable to visit the library, I like using the app Libby to borrow e-books and audiobooks from their catalogue. I also started an Audible membership and have more than enough unread books on my shelf. Sometimes the best way to cope with panic is to read because it gives you a temporary escape.

Journaling and Organizing Your Planner

Ever since I was a child, I’ve always been into planners and stationery. This year, I gave bullet journalling another chance with a Leuchtturm1917 notebook. Bullet journalling takes a bit of effort and creativity. But it can be so much fun when you’re using specific pens and stickers.

Doing At-Home Workouts

At the moment, gyms should be following strict COVID-19 plans. To stay self-quarantined, YouTube and Instagram are great resources for workouts. I even found informative workout suggestions on the app TikTok.

Listening to Music and Podcasts

Take the time to catch up on new music releases or discover podcasts on streaming services. This week I’ve been enjoying Lil Uzi Vert’s album and Niall Horan’s album. I’ve also written a previous post – My Top 5 Favourite Podcasts if you’re looking for recommendations.

Watching Television and Films

The Bachelor and Love Is Blind has captured my attention for the past couple of weeks. I’ll now be catching up on other reality TV shows I follow and tackling a couple of Oscar-winning films.

Colouring

Like journaling, colouring can feel calming. I own a book full of intricate mandalas and the process of colouring can be more fun than finishing the page.

Cooking and Baking

When I was in University, I used to ‘stress bake’ during the exam season. There is something comforting about homemade cupcakes when you need them most. Pinterest is an amazing resource if you’re looking for your next bake or recipe.

Self Care

Taking care of yourself is important. On top of necessary hygiene, treating yourself to an at-home manicure or pedicure can be pampering. You can also run a bath, do a hair mask, or exfoliate. The innovations in beauty and skincare make the options endless…

Crosswords and Puzzles

One of my family members gifted me a People’s Celebrity Crossword and Puzzle Book and it’s so entertaining. I like traditional crosswords but it’s satisfying to know the answers without google-ing.

Organizing and Cleaning

Get ahead on spring cleaning and organize your closet or dust your bedroom. It’s essential to clean during the outbreak – but organizing your space could help you feel renewed.

Video Games

A couple of days ago, I was feeling nostalgic and downloaded Sims 4 on my desktop computer. Playing video games can help with anxiety and can provide a distraction.

Video Chat With Friends

My friends started a Skype trivia group where we could hang out and play games during the self-quarantine. I applaud them on the idea because it helps me still feel social.

How are you spending your time during the quarantine?

Let me know.
