Products I Finished – October to December 2020

It feels unreal that I’ve made it to year three of sharing all my beauty empties. When 2020 began, like all of us, we had no idea that a pandemic was on the horizon and how it would change not only our lives but our routines.

Here are the beauty products I finished from the start of October to the end of December 2020. I can’t wait to write again in the next three months a plethora of new mini-reviews.

Skincare

Aveeno Coconut Skin Relief Moisturizing Lotion

I received this lotion sample from a 5KM run and adored its coconut scent. I have a lot of body creams and lotions to finish in my collection, but I do want to purchase a full-size of this Aveeno lotion later.

Purchase? YES. (c$12.49 – 354ml Standard-Size) *Sample

Bioderma Sensibio H2O Micellar Water

My favourite micellar water.

Re-Purchase? YES. (c$19.90 – 500ml Value-Size)

Bioderma Sensibio Light Soothing Cream

In Spring 2020, I was tempted to switch facial moisturizers and didn’t succeed. Although this Bioderma moisturizer is fragrance-free and has a great ingredient list – it’s not moisturizing enough for my dry skin. I re-purposed it as a body cream.

Re-Purchase? NO. (c$24.90 – 40ml Standard-Size)

CeraVe Moisturizing Cream

My favourite facial moisturizer.

Re-Purchase? YES. (c$26.99 – 539g Value-Size)

Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm

My favourite cleansing balm.

Re-Purchase? YES. (c$42 – 125ml Standard-Size)

Clinique Take The Day Off Makeup Remover For Lids, Lashes, & Lips

I couldn’t find my favourite eye makeup remover at the drugstore, so I bought this Clinique one instead. Even though I like how it’s fragrance-free and ophthalmologist tested, I did find the product to feel drying on the skin.

Re-Purchase? NO. (c$26 – 125ml Standard-Size)

Drunk Elephant B-Hydra Intensive Hydration Serum

My favourite hydrating gel-serum.

Re-Purchase? YES. (c$63 – 50ml)

Eucerin Aquaphor Healing Ointment (First Review)

When I went through a drying acne treatment a couple of years ago, I used this Eucerin ointment as a lip balm. I then continued to use it before bed and found it very soothing. I believe that it’s an outstanding product, but I have other lip balms and a jar of vaseline to finish before I think of a re-purchase.

Re-Purchase? MAYBE. (c$10.99 – 50g Mini-Size)

Soap & Glory Flake Away Body Polish

After finishing the whole range of Dove body polishes available at my drugstore, I wanted to buy a new body polish from another brand. I chose this Soap & Glory one and adored it. The apricot seed and sugar scrub feels so moisturizing on the skin and it smells spa-like. I finished this tub quickly and I would re-purchase it but now I’m curious to see what the other Soap & Glory body polishes and scrubs are like.

Re-Purchase? MAYBE. (c$18 – 300ml Standard-Size)

St. Ives Softening Coconut & Orchid Body Lotion

Due to the brand St. Ives not being recommended in the online skincare community, I would’ve never tried this body lotion if it wasn’t a gift. The lotion has a thin consistency, is designed with a hygienic pump-lid, and has a subtle floral scent. I would be open to buying another scented version next time.

Purchase? MAYBE. (c$5.99 – 600ml Standard-Size) *Gifted

The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5

My favourite hyaluronic acid serum.

Re-Purchase? YES. (c$6.80 – 30ml Standard-Size)

Makeup

BECCA Cosmetics Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed in Moonstone

This is the first luxury highlighter I bought in 2016 when the highlighter craze began. At Sephora, I was directed to this light champagne shade called Moonstone that compliments my pale skin tone. I’ve tried other drugstore highlighters since, but they never quite matched my high-quality BECCA Cosmetics one. It took me five years to finish this luxury highlighter, and I re-purchased it in a mini-size because I feel like that’s more hygienic.

Re-Purchase? YES. (c$50 – 8g Standard-Size)

Bite Beauty Lip Pencil in 020

I received this lip pencil in an Influenster campaign a couple of years ago, and I feel like it’s expired. I would not purchase it because I feel like many drugstore lip pencils are comparable and affordable.

Purchase? DISCONTINUED. (c$? – 1.4g Standard-Size) *Gifted

Burt’s Bees Moisturizing Lip Balm in Strawberry

I’ve tried over 15+ lip balms and Burt’s Bees makes the best-scented ones. The strawberry-scented lip balm smells and tastes like candy. I have other lip balms to finish in my collection, but I would definitely re-purchase the strawberry one.

Re-Purchase? YES. (c$5.99 – 4.25g Standard-Size)

CoverGirl Exhibitionist Mascara in Very Black (First Review)

This drugstore mascara gives my lashes volume and is easy to remove. I have sensitive dry-eyes and this mascara gives me no reactions.

Re-Purchase? YES. (c$12.49 – 9ml Standard-Size)

CoverGirl TruNaked Eyeshadow Palette in Peach Punch

I’m upset that I’m discarding this eyeshadow palette because I only used it a handful amount of times and liked how affordable the eyeshadow palette was. At first, the peach scent was light and underwhelming, but as I continued to use the eyeshadow palette, the smell made my eyes water, and the eyeshadow fallout was everywhere. I feel like now, when buying eyeshadow palettes; I will still clear from scented products because my eyes are super sensitive.

Re-Purchase? NO. (c$14.99 – 8 Eyeshadows)

Fresh Limited Edition Sugar Valentine’s Day Tin

I bought this Fresh limited-edition Sugar Valentine’s Day tin in 2018 when I was on a drying acne treatment, and my lips couldn’t handle wearing lipstick. After the acne treatment and my lips readjusted to wearing lipstick again, I had no interest in reaching for these mini tinted lip balms. I no longer purchase tinted lip balms because I don’t particularly appreciate how easily the tint smudges everywhere.

Re-Purchase? DISCONTINUED. (c$60 – 6 Mini-Size Tinted Lip Treatments)

Lancôme Matte Shaker High Pigment Liquid Lipstick in 270 Beige Vintage

When I bought this liquid lipstick in 2016, it was such a trendy item. The shaking sound it makes is so fun and being infused with moisturizing lip oils to feel less drying than other matte liquid lipsticks was innovative at the time. I feel like it’s expired now and I have other liquid lipsticks in my collection that are of similar shades.

Re-Purchase? NO. (c$33 – 6.7ml Standard-Size)

Maybelline New York Lash Sensational Washable Mascara in Blackest Black (First Review)

I’ve used this mascara before and had no issues. However, now due to the colder temperatures, my eyes start to water and tear-up outside, and when I come back, I notice my under-eyes are smudged with mascara. I know they changed this mascara’s packaging, but I’m not sure if they also changed the formula.

Re-Purchase? NO. (c$10.49 – 9.5ml Standard-Size)

Maybelline New York The City Mini Palette in Rooftop Bronzes

I have such a predicament with eyeshadows. I own luxury eyeshadow palettes, but I feel like they should only be used for special occasions or events. I buy drugstore eyeshadow palettes to wear every day, and I used this Maybelline New York The City Mini Palette for over two years. These drugstore eyeshadows were so pigmented, shimmery, and neutral. The palette was also so compact and easy to travel with. I’m not repurchasing this palette because I want to try other drugstore eyeshadows.

Re-Purchase? NO. (c$15.49 – 6 Eyeshadows)

NYX Professional Makeup Can’t Stop Won’t Stop Full Coverage Lightweight Concealer in Light Ivory

Skincare influencers have toted that this NYX concealer has one of the best formulations for acne-prone skin. I like its medium to full-coverage and how it reacts to my skin. But didn’t feel like it was hydrating enough or that it had a ‘wow’ factor for me to repurchase.

Re-Purchase? NO. (c$11.99 – 3.50ml Standard-Size)

NYX Professional Makeup Powder Puff Lippie Cream in Puppy Love

I bought this lipstick in 2018 because I felt that a pigmented powder lipstick was innovative for a drugstore product. I also liked its unique coral colour and how it didn’t feel as dry as a traditional liquid lipstick. I’m not going to re-purchase it because I’m not too fond of the applicator, and I have other lipsticks I want to try.

Re-Purchase? NO. (c$11.99 – 12ml Standard-Size)

Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner in Intense Black

Once I got my dry-eyes to a healthy stage where I could wear mascara again, I re-introduced liquid eyeliner into my makeup routine. Previously, my favourite liquid eyeliner was made by Kat Von D, who I don’t support anymore. Instead, I tried this best-selling Stila liquid eyeliner and was content. The liner is so pigmented, precise, and does not smudge. It’s not for beginner makeup users, though, because the felt-tip is so delicate is that there is hardly any room for error when applying. I did re-purchase another Stila eyeliner, but now that KVD Vegan Beauty is no longer associated with Kat Von D, I may go back to my favourite Tattoo Eyeliner.

Re-Purchase? MAYBE. (c$29 – 0.5ml Standard-Size)

Vaseline Limited Edition Pink Bubbly Lip Therapy

I bought this lip balm during the holidays of 2019 because I couldn’t resist the pink packaging and name. Once I started to use the lip balm in winter 2020, I could not handle its strong grapefruit scent. Grapefruit is my least favourite flavour or fragrance in anything.

Re-Purchase? NO. (c$4.68 – 17g Standard-Size)

Yves Saint Laurent Volupté Sheer Candy Lipstick in 16

I bought this tinted lip balm at a L’Oréal Paris warehouse sale in 2018 because I cannot resist Yves Saint Laurent beauty on sale. The packaging is elegant, and overall, the lip balm was very moisturizing. However, it is in a cherry red shade and it would smudge and get all over my teeth. I adore Yves Saint Laurent lip products, but I would not re-purchase this one.

Re-Purchase? DISCONTINUED. (c$37 – 3.4ml Standard-Size)

Hair

Garnier Whole Blends Coconut Water & Vanilla Milk Hydrating Shampoo

A non-SLS free coconut scented drugstore shampoo sample I received from a 5KM run.

Purchase? NO. (c$4.16 – 370ml Full-Size) *Sample

Garnier Whole Blends Coconut Water & Vanilla Milk Hydrating Conditioner

A non-SLS free coconut scented drugstore conditioner sample I received from a 5KM run.

Purchase? NO. (c$4.96 – 370ml Full-Size) *Sample

Kristin Ess Extra Gentle Shampoo

I adored this shampoo’s sweet scent and pink packaging but felt it was too gentle for my hair, and I desire a shampoo with more moisturizing ingredients. If you like SLS-free lightly scented thin-consistency shampoo, I recommend this one.

Re-Purchase? NO. (c$12.99 – 296ml)

Kristin Ess Extra Gentle Conditioner

Like the shampoo, this conditioner was too gentle for my hair, and I desire a conditioner with a thicker texture.

Re-Purchase? NO. (c$12.99 – 296ml)

Kristin Ess Strand Strengthening Reconstructive Moisturize Mask

I felt that the consistency of this hair mask was watery. It also creates a film on the hair toted as ‘zip-up’ technology. It’s the added silicone that’s supposed to coat and prevent split ends.

Re-Purchase? NO. (c$17.99 – 200ml)

L’Oréal Paris Hair Expertise 8 Second Wonder Water Lamellar Rinse-Out Treatment

After seeing recommendations on TikTok and YouTube, I was excited to try this product. It’s a rinse to do before conditioner that relaxes and smooths your hair. I felt like my hair was more manageable. But the ‘warming sensation’ when used was alarming, and I didn’t like the feeling.

Re-Purchase? NO. (c$9.96 – 200ml)

Nizoral Anti-Dandruff Shampoo (First Review)

My favourite anti-dandruff hair treatment.

Re-Purchase? YES. (c$16.97 – 120ml)

Shu Uemura Cleansing Oil Shampoo

A non-SLS free shampoo sample enriched with onsen-inspired ferment known in Japan for its purifying properties.

Purchase? NO. (c$56 – Full-Size) *Sample

Nails

Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat

Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat is known as one of the best nail polish topcoats. As it applies clear, smoothly, and dries fast. I do at-home-manicures once a week, and this top coat cuts my drying time in half. My favourite local salon uses this top coat too! I bought this bottle off of Amazon, and I’ve purchased it previously at WINNERS.

Re-Purchase? YES. (c$12.49 – 14ml)
