Products I Finished – July to September 2020

I present my concise reviews of beauty products I have finished in the months of July, August, and September 2020. Overall, in these past three months, I feel like I’ve been experimenting with hair care the most to prevent damage in-between haircuts due to COVID.

Avene Thermal Spring Water Spray

My favourite thermal water spray.

CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser

In February, I went through a period where I questioned my favourite facial cleanser and wanted to try other options. I’ve used this CeraVe cleanser in the past, and it’s full of ingredients like ceramides and hyaluronic acid. I re-purposed it as a body wash because it didn’t feel as hydrating as my favourite La Roche-Posay facial cleanser.

Re-Purchase? NO. (c$17.99 – 355ml Standard-Size)

Cetaphil Gentle Makeup Remover

It’s rare to find eye makeup removers that are non-irritating. I have dry, sensitive eyes, and this is a new product made by Cetaphil that gave me no reaction. Even though it’s advertised as fragrance-free, it has aloe vera, ginseng, and green tea in it, making it feel soothing on the skin. I would’ve re-purchased it, but it isn’t easy to find at drugstores.

Re-Purchase? YES. (c$11.49 – 177ml)

Dove Exfoliating Body Polish Pomegranate Seeds & Shea Butter (First Review)

Physical exfoliation is one of my favourite forms of self-care. I’ve finished three tubs of this Dove body polish, and the pomegranate scented one is my second favourite, and the macadamia rice milk scented one is my first. They’ve come out with a lavender-scented one, but I haven’t been able to find it in stores yet.

Re-Purchase? MAYBE. (c$8.27 – 298g)

Drunk Elephant B-Hydra Intensive Hydration Serum

My favourite hydrating gel serum.

Re-Purchase? YES. (c$63 – 50ml)

Garnier Ombrelle Ultra Light Advanced Sunscreen Spray SPF 60

This summer, I re-applied sunscreen diligently. I liked this alcohol-free, fragrance-free, and cosmetically-elegant Garnier Ombrelle spray lotion the best. I went through two cans of it this summer.

Re-Purchase? YES. (c$18.98 – 142g)

La Roche-Posay Toleriane Caring Wash

Similar to the Cerave cleanser, this is another option I tried. This cleanser is named Toleraine Hydrating Gentle Cleanser in the USA, and it’s highly recommended as it’s full of ingredients like ceramides and niacinamide. I went into it with high expectations, and it felt drying on my skin – so I re-purposed it as a body wash.

Re-Purchase? NO. (c$23 – 200ml)

La Roche-Posay Toleraine Dermo-Cleanser

My favourite facial cleanser.

Re-Purchase? YES. (c$29.95 – 400ml Value-Size)

Lierac Lift Integral Neck & Décolleté Gel-Cream

I received this décolleté cream sample from a beauty counter employee and I can assure you it’s just marketing. If you want to prevent wrinkles in your neck area apply your daily moisturizer there.

Purchase? NO. (c$90 – 50ml Standard-Size) * SAMPLE

The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5

My favourite hyaluronic acid serum.

Re-Purchase? YES. (c$6.80 – 30ml Standard-Size)

Briogeo Scalp Revival Charcoal + Coconut Oil Micro-Exfoliating Shampoo

I was intrigued by this shampoo sample because I was wondering if it could replace my Nizoral treatment. While using it, I realized that I don’t like tub packaging shampoo or how messy charcoal could get.

Purchase? NO. (c$54 – 236ml Standard-Size) * SAMPLE

Briogeo Don’t Despair, Repair! Deep Conditioning Mask (First Review)

I’ve received samples of this luxury hair mask before and enjoyed its texture and orange scent. There are drugstore options that are comparable and I don’t see the investment in this hair mask.

Purchase? NO. (c$46 – 237ml Standard-Size) * SAMPLE

John Frieda Detox & Repair Masque

This hair mask is a new drugstore product that moisturizes and protects the hair with avocado oil and green tea. If you’re new to hair masks, this is a great drugstore one to start with before investing in luxury haircare.

Re-Purchase? NO. (c$9.97 – 250ml)

L’Oréal Paris Elnett Satin Strong Hold Hairspray (First Review)

L’Oréal Paris Elnett Satin hairsprays are a classic. They don’t have heavy fragrances, aren’t sticky, and they hold hair well. This hairspray can took me a year to finish and I’ve purchased the ‘Extra Strong Hold’ version to compare.

Re-Purchase? MAYBE. (c$11.49 – 250ml Standard-Size)

Marc Anthony Grow Long Super Fast Leave-In Conditioner

This is my first time finishing a drugstore leave-in conditioner, and I was surprised by the results. Due to COVID, I’m trying to keep my hair healthy between haircuts, and this Marc Anthony leave-in conditioner is full of caffeine and ginseng to stimulate hair growth.

Re-Purchase? MAYBE. (c$10.99 – 250ml)

Nexxus Frizz Defy Conditioner

A higher-end drugstore conditioner that is not SLS-free. Uses Argan oil and elastin protein to protect hair against frizz and smells herbal. I didn’t notice any difference in my hair to re-purchase it or try a different set from the brand.

Re-Purchase? NO. (c$16.99 – 400ml)

Nexxus Frizz Defy Shampoo

A higher-end drugstore shampoo that is not SLS-free. Uses Argan oil and elastin protein to protect hair against frizz and smells herbal.

Re-Purchase? NO. (c$14.99 – 400ml)

VERB Reset Clarifying Shampoo

A clarifying shampoo designed to remove product build up. This is my favourite product out of the the hair care line.

Purchase? NO. (c$20 – 201ml Standard-Size) * SAMPLE

VERB Reset Repairing Mask

A green tea, honey, and quinoa protein hair mask that nurtures your hair.

Purchase? NO. (c$20 – 193g Standard-Size) * SAMPLE

VERB Reset Sealing Mist

This strengthening mist locks in protein to repair and seal damaged hair cuticles.

Purchase? NO. (c$20 – 100ml Standard-Size) * SAMPLE

BeautyBlender Original BeautyBlender Makeup Sponge

A year ago, I stopped buying expensive sponges when I discovered The Real Techniques sponges. The Real Technique sponges have been harder to find in stores, and on a whim, I bought a BeautyBlender again. I’ll be investing in BeautyBlender sponges from now on because they’re more durable and easier to use.

Re-Purchase? YES. (c$26 – One Sponge)

CoverGirl Exhibitionist Mascara in Very Black

I returned the Benefit Cosmetics Rollerlash Mascara after an allergic reaction and purchased this CoverGirl Exhibitionist Mascara. This drugstore mascara is easy to remove and has given me no reactions, so I will keep re-purchasing it.

Re-Purchase? YES. (c$12.49 – 9ml)

NYX Fill & Fluff Eyebrow Pencil in Auburn

NYX makes excellent drugstore eyebrow products. The Fill & Fluff Eyebrow Pencil includes a thicker pomade pencil product that can make your eyebrows look dramatic and is harder to remove. I also mistakenly purchased it in the auburn shade, which didn’t match my brunette hair.

Re-Purchase? NO. (c$8.74 – 0.2g)

Cutex Strengthening Polish Remover

A branded strengthening acetone nail polish remover with ingredients like wheat protein, glycerin, soy protein, and castor oil. I would re-purchase this if I was travelling.

Re-Purchase? MAYBE. (c$? – 100ml Mini-Size)

Equate Regular Nail Polish Remover

Generic Walmart acetone nail polish remover with added glycerin.

Re-Purchase? NO. (c$? – 354ml)

Bath & Body Works A Thousand Wishes Anti-Bacterial Hand Gel (First Review)

A Thousand Wishes is a signature Bath and Body Works scent that smells like fruit punch. This anti-bacterial hand gel is pink, glitters, and is fun to use. Thankfully, I have other hand gels in my collection and due to COVID Bath and Body Works Anti-Bacterial Hand Gel are constantly sold out.

Re-Purchase? MAYBE (us$1.95 – 29ml)

Dove Invisible Clear Finish Antiperspirant Dry Spray (First Review)

This year, I’ve switched back and forth from different branded dry sprays. I prefer Dove’s clean white packaging but overall it’s not as long-lasting as other brands I’ve tried. It’s still a great antiperspirant though.

Re-Purchase? MAYBE. (c$8.99 – 107g)

Moschino Fresh Couture Eau De Toilette

A ‘campy’ packaged perfume that’s fresh with notes of bergamot, mandarin, ylang ylang, raspberry, white peony, osmanthus, cedarwood, white patchouli, and ambrox.

Purchase? NO. (c$110 – 101ml Standard-Size) * SAMPLE

Narciso Rodriguez For Her Pure Musc Eau de Parfum

This perfume is floral and sophisticated with notes of orange blossom, heart of musc, and cashmeran. It’s one of the first perfume samples where I put it on a wish-list.

Purchase? MAYBE. (c$157 – 100ml Standard-Size) * SAMPLE

Sensodyne Pronamel Gentle Whitening Toothpaste (First Review)

My favourite SLS-Free toothpaste.

Re-Purchase? YES. (c$5.76 – 110ml Value-Size)
