The installment of this series has been a long time coming. I’m revealing the past four months of beauty products I’ve finished and what I will be re-purchasing and replacing.

Skincare

Avene Skin Recovery Cream Rich

I liked how this cream was fragrance-free and cosmetically elegant. However, the ingredients didn’t agree with my skin, and I re-purposed it as a hand cream. Avene has also renamed it Tolérance Contrôl Soothing Skin Recovery Cream.

Re-Purchase? No. (c$35.50 – 50ml Standard-Size)

Avene Thermal Spring Water (Product Review)

My favourite thermal spring water spray.

Re-Purchase? Yes. (c$21.95 – 300ml Value-Size)

Bioderma Sensibio H2O Make-up Removing Solution (Product Review)

My favourite micellar water.

Re-Purchase? Yes. (c$19.99 – 500ml Value-Size)

Cetaphil Gentle Makeup Remover (First Review)

My favourite eye makeup remover.

Re-Purchase? Yes. (c$11.49 – 177ml Standard-Size)

Drunk Elephant B-Hydra Intensive Hydration Serum (Product Review)

My favourite hydrating gel serum.

Re-Purchase? Yes. (c$63 – 50ml Standard-Size)

La Roche-Posay Toleriane Dermo-Cleanser (Product Review)

My favourite facial cleanser.

Re-Purchase? Yes. (c$29.95 – 400ml Value-Size + c$23 – 200ml Standard-Size)

The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 (Product Review)

My favourite hyaluronic acid serum.

Re-Purchase? Yes. (2x c$12.20 – 60ml Value-Size)

Makeup

Benefit Cosmetics Precisely, My Brow Pencil Waterproof Eyebrow Definer in Shade 3 – Warm Light Brown

Benefit Cosmetics makes some of the best eyebrow makeup. This pencil is pigmented and has a precise application. That packaging is also cool! I may re-purchase it. However, drugstore makeup brands have been releasing new eyebrow products that I want to try first.

Re-Purchase? Maybe. (c$32 – 0.08g Standard-Size)

Burt’s Bees Moisturizing Lip Balm in Wild Cherry

I like Burt’s Bees lip balms; however, I will not re-purchase this one because the wild cherry scent is more natural than a candied cherry scent.

Re-Purchase? No. (c$5.99 – 4.25g Standard-Size)

CoverGirl Exhibitionist Mascara in Very Black (First Review)

CoverGirl Exhibitionist Mascara is one of my favourites, but I’m curious about trying others after finishing six tubes consecutively.

Re-Purchase? Maybe. (c$12.49 – 9ml Standard-Size)

CoverGirl TruNaked Eyeshadow Palette in Sunsets

Similar to the CoverGirl TruNaked Eyeshadow Palette in Peach Punch, the heavy scent in these eyeshadows bother my eyes and I will not purchase eyeshadows from CoverGirl again.

Re-Purchase? No. (c$14.99 – 8 Eyeshadows)

Ilia Liquid Light Serum Highlighter in Nova

I received this sample from Sephora and was curious about the brand Ilia. This serum highlighter has a gorgeous champagne finish, but it doesn’t sit on top of my base makeup well.

Purchase? No. (c$54 – 15ml Standard-Size) *Sample

Maybelline New York Color Sensational Made For All Lipstick in 379 Fuchsia For Me

This Maybelline lipstick in Fuchsia For Me was the first lipstick of many that I bought from their Made For All Collection. I bought this bright fuchsia shade to wear to the Ariana Grande concert in 2019, and I’ve only worn it a handful of times since. The concept of the Made For All Collection is fantastic, but I rarely wear fuchsia lipsticks anymore.

Re-Purchase? No. (c$10.49 – 4.2g Standard-Size)

Maybelline New York Super Stay Matte Ink in 15 Lover

Lover is the first shade of Super Stay Matte Inks that I bought years ago. To this day, I believe they’re the best liquid lipsticks both in the high-end and drugstore market. I will not re-purchase this shade because I have another lipstick in a similar colour, and I still have four other Maybelline Super Stay Matte Inks to finish.

Re-Purchase? No. (c$12.49 – 5.0ml Standard-Size)

NARS Soft Matte Complete Concealer in Vanilla

I bought this concealer in 2017. At the time, I wanted to conceal my blemishes and thought this pigmented concealer would do wonders. I used it sporadically till 2019 when I re-introduced wearing makeup every day. I like the comfortability of only spot concealing my blemishes instead of wearing a foundation every day. I recommend this product if you want to use a cream pot concealer versus’ a liquid concealer because it’s one of the best.

Re-Purchase? Yes. (c$39 – 6.2g Standard-Size)

Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner in Intense Black (First Review)

The Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner is the most comparable liquid eyeliner to my favourite KVD Beauty Tattoo Liner. Now that Kat Von D has been separated from the brand and does not receive financial compensation from KVD Beauty. I feel comfortable repurchasing my favourite liquid eyeliner and finally leaving this one behind.

Re-Purchase? No. (c$29 – 0.5ml Standard-Size)

Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes 4-in-1 Mascara in Black – Rich Black

Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes 4-in-1 Mascara is the first high-end mascara I’ve used in while that gave my dry-sensitive eyes no reaction. I feel like it’s a great mascara and the sample from Sephora was exciting to use, but I don’t feel the need to purchase high-end mascaras when there are similar drugstore mascaras out there for a fraction of the price.

Purchase? No. (c$30 – 7ml Standard-Size) *Sample

Too Faced Born This Way Foundation in Porcelain (Product Review)

My favourite foundation.

Re-Purchase? Yes. (c$52 – 30ml Standard-Size)

Hair

Batiste Instant Hair Refresh Dry Shampoo Plus With a Hint of Colour Beautiful Brunette

At the beginning of 2021, I decided that I would only wash my hair twice a week and incorporate dry shampoo. Batiste Instant Hair Refresh Dry Shampoo Plus With a Hint of Colour Beautiful Brunette was the first dry shampoo I used in a while, and I prefer it to the Batiste original. Still, the brunette colour did transfer on clothes, and that’s why I will not re-purchase it.

Re-Purchase? No. (c$10.99 – 200ml Standard-Size)

Batiste No Rinse Shampoo Waterless Cleansing Foam Cleanse + Shine with Coconut Milk

I received this sample at a 5KM run and was excited to try this Batiste No Rinse Shampoo Waterless Cleansing Foam because it’s recommended in the fitness community. I feel like a no-shampoo cleansing foam is innovative, however, I felt like the foam took a while to dry on my hair.

Purchase? No. (c$10.99 – 125ml Standard-Size) *Sample

Herbal Essences Bio:Renew Argan Oil Repair Shampoo

This is another sample I received from a 5KM run and I don’t recommend many drugstore shampoos, especially Herbal Essences, because their ingredients are not always the best for your hair.

Purchase? No. (c$8.99 – 400ml Standard-Size) *Sample

John Frieda Frizz Ease Secret Weapon Touch-Up Crème

Years ago, I started to put more effort into my hair and added this cream into my routine. I will not re-purchase it because it felt greasy on my hair and there are a couple of ingredients that I don’t like that are featured in it.

Re-Purchase? No. (c$12.99 – 115ml Standard-Size)

Nizoral Anti-Dandruff Shampoo (First Review)

My favourite anti-dandruff shampoo.

Re-Purchase? Yes. (c$20.99 – 120ml Value-Size)

Nails

Essie Nail Lacquer in Bare With Me 1003

Three years ago, I took myself to the nail salon and got a coral-orange gel manicure. The process of removing a gel manicure can be taxing, so I remember buying Essie’s Bare With Me afterwards and promising myself that I would only wear neutral nail polishes. I’ve broken that promise multiple times, but I still love this Essie nail lacquer. I may re-purchase again after I finish other neutral polishes I own.

Re-Purchase? Maybe. (c$10.99 – 13.5ml Standard-Size)

Essie Nail Lacquer in Going Incognito

Essie’s Going Incognito was my first green nail polish and I purchased at a L’Oréal Paris Warehouse Sale. Going Incognito was a limited-edition colour and it’s now expired and streaky.

Re-Purchase? Discontinued. (c$10.99 – 13.5ml Standard-Size)

Essie Nail Lacquer in In Stitches 608

Essie’s In Stitches is my favourite berry pink nail polish and it’s no surprise that I finished and will be re-purchasing it.

Re-Purchase? Yes. (c$10.99 – 13.5ml Standard-Size)

Essie Smooth-e Base Coat

A ceramide-infused base coat that fills uneven surfaces on the nail. There wasn’t a noticeable difference, and Essie has since released a new basecoat that I’m using now.

Re-Purchase? Maybe. (c$12.99 – 13.5ml Standard-Size)

L’Oréal Paris Nail Color in After Hours 550

I have memories of my mom in elementary school and high school forbidding me from wearing dark nail polishes. So, in my first year of university away from home I bought this navy-blue nail polish and wore it handful of times. L’Oréal Paris doesn’t even make nail polish anymore.

Re-Purchase? Discontinued. (c$? – 11.7ml Standard-Size)

Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in 240 Pink Prong

I finished this neutral pink polish after having it in my collection for years. This is the first Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure nail polish I bought and it’s still one of my favourite formulas of nail polish from Sally Hansen.

Re-Purchase? Maybe. (c$10.99 – 14.7ml Standard-Size)

Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Nail Color in 243 Make it Snappy!

Here is an example of Sally Hansen’s formula that I will not re-purchase. Although, Make it Snappy! is a pretty shimmery pale pink polish, the formula is difficult to apply and streaky. Budget-friendly lines within nail polish brands are not worth it because they typically are packaged in smaller bottles with a lesser quality of nail polish. Instead of purchasing a Sally Hansen Insta-Dri nail polish (9.17ml) wait for Essie (13.5ml) or Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure (14.7ml) nail polishes to go on sale.

Re-Purchase? No. (c$6.49 – 9.17ml Standard-Size)

Other

Aquolina Pink Sugar Eau de Toilette

I wear perfume every day, and when the first quarantine began in March 2020, I wanted an inexpensive perfume to wear at home. I wore Aquolina Pink Sugar throughout elementary and high school, so wearing the sugary sweet scent all last year was nostalgic for me. I want my next scent to be more mature and feminine.

Re-Purchase? No. (c$22.86 – 50ml Standard-Size)

Bath and Body Works Champagne Sparkle Anti-Bacterial Hand Gel

The ‘champagne’ scent in this anti-bacterial hand gel smells like apple and I liked how the gold glitter shimmered on my hands. Bath and Body Works comes out with so many new anti-bacterial hand gels, I feel like it’s impossible to re-purchase the same scent.

Re-Purchase? Discontinued. (c$? – 29ml Standard-Size)

Bath and Body Works Cinnamon Pumpkin Shower Gel

Bath and Body Works is always a trendsetter in seasonal scents, and I have a hard time resisting pumpkin scented products. I liked this shower gel and may re-purchase it again in the fall or whatever new pumpkin scent they’ve released.

Re-Purchase? Discontinued. (c$? – 295ml Standard-Size)

Beekman 1802 Pure Goat Milk Whipped Body Cream Vanilla Absolute

I’ve tried other Beekman 1802 products that were gifts, and the Pure Goat Milk Whipped Body Cream in Vanilla Absolute is now a favourite. I love the rich consistency of the cream and how natural the vanilla scent is. I will not purchase it because Beekman 1802 products can only be purchased via The Shopping Channel in Canada.

Purchase? No. (c$38 – 236ml Standard-Size) *Gifted

Degree Motion Sense Dry Spray Workout Series Endure 48H Antiperspirant

I was intrigued by this Degree dry spray antiperspirant because I like how it was catered to people who like to work out. Like the other Degree dry sprays, it is long-lasting and clear. However, the scent in the Workout Series Endure is too overpowering.

Re-Purchase? No. (c$6.99 – 107g Standard-Size)

Dove Dry Spray Go Fresh Cool Essentials 48H Protection Antiperspirant

I purchased this travel-size Dove dry spray antiperspirant last summer to keep in my handbag. The drugstore I purchased it from only carried the Cool Essentials (cucumber) scent and it was handy for active summer days.

Re-Purchase? Maybe. (c$2.99 – 28g Mini-Size)

J.R. Watkins Shea Butter Hand Cream Pomegranate & Acai

Due to the pandemic, I feel like I’ve been using hand cream less often. This pomegranate and acai scented hand cream was a gift and it felt moisturizing; however, I will not purchase it because it’s not compact enough to travel with in a handbag.

Purchase? No. (c$9.49 – 95g Standard-Size) *Gifted

Live Clean Gingerbread Latte Liquid Hand Soap

I bought this gingerbread latte hand soap on a whim, enjoyed it, and it lasted way beyond the holidays. I feel like it has opened me up to trying more scented hand soaps instead of buying fragrance-free ones.

Re-Purchase? Discontinued. (c$? – 500ml Standard-Size)

Sensodyne Pro Namel Gentle Whitening Mint Breeze Toothpaste (First Review)

My favourite SLS-free toothpaste.

Re-Purchase? Yes. (c$7.79 -75ml Standard-Size)

Soap & Glory Buff and Ready Coconut Body Scrub

Buff and Ready Coconut Body Scrub is the second body scrub I’ve finished from Soap & Glory. I was not fond of it as much as their Flake Away Body Polish, and I prefer physical exfoliation with apricot seeds to microbeads with a coconut scent. I will not re-purchase because I am using another Soap & Glory body scrub.

Re-Purchase? No. (c$18 – 300ml Standard-Size)

Due to most of my readers being in the United States, the links I’ve included in this blog article are linked to US websites. If you’re from Canada or a different country – search the product names in search engines, and they will lead you directly to them.
